Picture of Brake Disc In the past, drum brakes were the most commonly used type of car braking system. Over the years, however, the brake discs have taken over because they have proven more effective in stopping vehicles. Unlike drum brakes, brake discs have fewer moving Brake Disc Parts. Because of that, they're simpler and easier to repair.

The typical brake disc consists of parts such as the master cylinder, brake lines, calipers, pads, and rotors. When you step on the brake pedal, hydraulic pressure from the master cylinder causes the calipers to squeeze the rotor. The calipers are equipped with brake pads, and the friction produced by the pads cause the rotors and the wheels to stop.
