Bumper Reinforcement
Do you have any idea what a bumper reinforcement is? Try removing your front bumper and you'll see. Underneath is the front bumper reinforcement, which helps the front bumper retain its shape in case of collision. The reinforcement absorbs impact and diffuses it safely across itself to prevent damage to surrounding components. Of course, heavy impact will undoubtedly ruin the bumper. But with the reinforcement underneath, damage will be minimized somewhat. Hey, it's much better than having your bumper completely pulverized. Having to repair a bumper is a tad easier financially than having to buy a replacement-at least for most people.
Take note that not every vehicle has bumper reinforcement though. In fact, you'll only find it on high end makes and models, such as the Nissan 350Z which has a rear bumper reinforcement. Still, it doesn't mean that you can't retrofit one on your vehicle and shouldn't discourage you from getting one. In fact, there are ready-made reinforcements that can now fit specific vehicle makes and models. Know-it-alls may say that today's bumpers don't really need reinforcement-their reason being that today's plastic bumpers are quite flexible and can bounce back into their original shape, with a little help, after sustaining impact. But when you think about it, it's actually yesteryears' metallic bumpers that don't need reinforcement. But plastic bumpers-why do you think cops wear kevlar vests under their uniforms?
