Backpressure builds up when there is no enough room for the exhaust gases to freely escape during exhaust stroke. Backpressure creates resistance to the pistons thereby reducing their power output. More fuel injections and efficient air intake may not be translated to torque if there is insufficient passageway for the exhaust gases. Hence, increasing the power output of an engine entails not only better fuel-air ratio but also involves better exhaust system. Although engines have exhaust valves, these are not enough to handle backpressure. Totally redesigning an engine to reduce or eliminate backpressure is unrealistic and impractical. However, engine headers like the DC Sports 4-2-1 One-Piece Headers are simpler yet effective means of controlling backpressure.
Although ordinary cars utilize headers, only off-road sports cars can legally utilize the DC Sports 4-2-1 One-Piece Headers. The main reason for this is in the problem of design. Street cars are manufactured to have catalytic converters installed on the exhaust manifold. This physically limits the installation of DC Sports 4-2-1 One-Piece Headers on ordinary street cars. Statutory provisions prohibit the removal of catalytic converters in street cars in favor of headers. There is also very limited demand for the DC sports headers that manufacturing customized headers for every type of engine is economically unviable.

Basically, the DC Sports 4-2-1 One-Piece Header is either ceramic coated or stainless steel. Ceramic coating has the great ability to resist the extreme heat of the exhaust gases. Ceramic coated DC Sports 4-2-1 One-Piece Header is ideally used in sports cars. Mufflers and catalytic converters are typically removed in off-road sports cars to accommodate this product and also to minimize backpressure.
As the name suggests, the DC Sports 4-2-1 One-Piece Header has four-two-one exhaust pipes arrangement. The exhaust gases from the engine combustion chambers are directed to these pipes.
