Engine performance can be improved by the DC Sports 4-2-1 Two Piece Headers. Improvement in performance can be measured in several ways. One way of measuring engine performance is fuel efficiency. If an engine is able to deliver comparatively good mileage for certain amount of fuel consumption, it is said to be fuel efficient.
Simply put, fuel efficiency refers to the ratio between the amount of fuel consumed versus the actual work done. If an engine has higher rate of work done for a certain fix amount of fuel, then the engine is said to be fuel efficient. It should be noted, however, that although complete combustion of fuel is important in fuel efficiency, it is not synonymous with fuel efficiency.
Another way of measuring engine performance is horsepower. The amount of horsepower generated by an engine is directly proportional to the amount of work it can do given a certain period of time. Hence, an engine with greater horsepower is capable of greater acceleration given a fix period of time. An engine with greater horsepower is also capable of carrying comparatively greater loads. Engine horsepower is also directly related to torque or rotational force of the wheels. The greater the engine horsepower, the greater is the torque of the wheels. Torque is very important in sports car as it provides the car with greater speed.
Horsepower and torque are adversely affected by a phenomenon known as backpressure. As the engine strives to generate greater power, it consumes greater amount of fuel at faster rate. However, the typical four-stroke engine cycle of intake stroke, induction stroke, power (combustion) stroke, and exhaust stroke has physical limitations. Sometimes the gaseous exhaust cannot escape fast enough during the exhaust stroke stage. Residual resistance against the pistons builds-up. This phenomenon is called backpressure. A sports car can greatly benefit from a DC Sports 4-2-1 Two Piece Header by significantly reducing backpressure. This header collects and redirects exhaust gases thereby encouraging better flow.
