The clutch in your cooling fan should be regularly inspected. This is the part that activates your fan based on engine temperature. In older vehicle models, the thermostat opens and closes according to the temperature to allow or restrict the flow of coolant into the cooling lines. In the same way, temperature also determines fan clutch engagement and fan rotation. High temperature engages the clutch and makes the fan turn faster; the opposite happens during low temperature. In newer vehicles, there are sensors that send temperature signals to the engine computer, which energizes the fan to turn whenever needed.

Fan clutches work the same way, although they vary in specifications. Those from Hayden come in different specs. One comes in 5.43-inch overall diameter, M24 x 1.5 inches left pilot diameter, 1.37-inch fan mount height, 4.88-inch fan bolt circle, and M6 x 1.0 hole four bolt and nut threads. They're equipped with a flat plate impeller that works in an 11.4-square-inch area. This impeller has a distinct appearance with its smooth steel faceplate and thermal spring assembly.
