When Mercedes Benz W201 first came in automobile industry in November 1982, it was introduced as the Mercedes Benz 190. Different research and studies were done in order to develop the said vehicle. Of course, this is done since if failure occurs, the rest of the models under the Mercedes Company will then be affected.

After serious study, they came up with the Mercedes 190 models in the showroom. The release was really successful that is why more and more units were sold in the succeeding years.

These models were more powerful and sportier. The Mercedes 190D is among these vehicle models. 1983 was the year when the first Mercedes 190D came in the market. It uses a brand new diesel engine having 25 pounds lighter than the usual 2.0 petrol engine. It actually has an uncommon “cross flow’ cylinder heads, hydraulic tappets, and a single belt that drives the different ancillaries. Typically, its design was based on the petrol engine. Hence everything was a great advantage for use with the thermostatically controlled element that is able to heat to prevent the fuel from waxing during cold temperature. The fuel can also turn to jelly along the fuel lines. Using such also allows the sound to be reduced for about 50% since it uses a tree-piece capsule surrounding the engine. The diesel model that was used also comes in three types. These are the 2.0 four-cylinder, the 2.2 four-cylinder, and the 2.5 five cylinder. After some time, improvements were done in this model and the use of diesel engine was dropped in 1989.
