Don Rickles started out in nightclubs as an insult artist. He later become know as an insult comedian. No one was beyond his reach.

Famous, wealthy, poor, no matter who you were Don could find an insult for you. They sounded harsh but the manner of delivery was such that, despite the words he used – and he never used vulgarity or epithets, no one was insulted.

Rather it was a honor to find yourself in Don’s ill graces. That is why he was a natural fit when it came to his short-lived but hilarious comedy series “CPO Sharkey.” He played a Chief Petty Officer in the navy and had a squad of young sailors to keep in line. He kept them in line with his insults while still being a caring senior sailor. He would pace back and forth, arms clasped behind his back, strolling by rows and rows of racks and delivering one zinger after another. In one episode one of his seamen was working on his van behind the base motor pool. You can almost hear CPO Sharkey speak his mind: “What do you mean you are fixing your van? Apes don’t have thumbs that can hold a hammer. No, no, dummy. Not your eye socket a socket wrench. You want to know the proper torque you dork? You torque me off. Is that the torque you are talking about?” If only that unsuspecting sailor had ordered his Toyota Previa A/C Condenser from us. CPO Sharkey may have said: “Way to go, Einstein.In the Navy for seven years and you finally did one thing right.”
